What is the New York State Committee?

The Democratic Party is divided into three levels, or committees, with representatives at the National, State, and County Committees. Every Assembly District elects one male and one female State Committee Member to a two-year term.

The Democratic State Committee helps to create the platform, rules, and regulations for the Democratic Party in New York State, including overseeing campaign spending, selecting democratic party leadership, and setting ethics standards. State Committee members also consider and vote on resolutions that affect the party, including voting measures.

Emerita’s State Committee Policy Platform

Emerita believes that the people of the Bronx deserve a Democratic Party that is active, inclusive, and transparent. She will fight to give the power to the voters and be a relentless advocate for our community.

Emerita is running to be the New York State Democratic Committeewoman for the 85th District, which includes Soundview, Clason Point, Harding Park, Hunts Point, and Longwood sections of the Bronx.

“I’m running to help my community understand the political process and advocate on our behalf. We deserve someone who represents us all.”

Emerita wants a Democratic Party that is…

Active

Emerita will work to ensure that the Democratic Party reaches out to our community and educates us all about the decisions that it makes. The Party should be engaged in the community and ensure that we all know the political process, how we can participate and develop concrete ways for regular community engagement.

Inclusive

We know there are systemic barriers to participating fully in the Democratic process. Emerita has seen this first hand, both in the Bronx and around the world. Emerita believes that our party should take every measure to ensure all members of our community - regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, education level or previous political experience - have an opportunity to engage in the party’s discussions.

Transparent

Politics can be opaque, especially when we are cut out of the decision-making process. For far too long, it has been difficult to discern what exactly our election officials are doing for us. I believe in ensuring a high level of transparency within the party so that our community is fully aware of what elected officials do and the decisions they make on our behalf.
